Today is World Braille Day

Braille is essential in the context of education, freedom of expression and opinion, as well as social inclusion.

World Braille Day is a time to raise awareness about the importance of literacy and education of people who are blind or visually impaired. It is also a time to recognise the many advances in assistive technology that have made it easier for people with visual disabilities to access information and communicate with others.

Fun fact: World Braille Day marks the birthday of Louis Braille, the inventor of braille.
